This is the discussion board for the Born-Again Balletomane's Blog
bornagainballetomane.wordpress.com/
We'll use this board for extended discussions related to posts on the blog, and also for general ballet news and discussions.
As with any discussion board, there are some rules that everyone should observe:
(1) No Spam. Period. Spam includes any offer of classes at your ballet school, any sales of crafts, any sales of health-related items or services, any sales of ballet equipment, any sales of anything at all, and any LINKS to anything like that. And of course, pornography spam is not acceptable. Just.Don't.Do.It.
(2) No Bragging. Yes, we know your child is cute and talented. No, we will not discuss your child here. (Child = Under 17)
(3) No Relatives. Ah, so your sister is a ballerina with X company and someone here said something less than kind about her dancing? So you're going to get every Tom, Dick and Harry you even vaguely know to flood us with protests? Not going to work. You'll get kicked out of here so fast you won't know what hit you.
which leads me to...
(4) No Trolling. I think this one speaks for itself, but if you are the type who can't keep a civil tongue in your head, maybe you don't recognize it or choose not to. We will recognize it, however, and you will be history on this board before you can stick out your tongue.
(5) No discussions about dancers' personal lives unless a dancer has spoken about some aspect of his/her own life in an interview in an recognized publication. In that case, the discussion will be strictly limited to what the dancer has been quoted as saying.
(6) No dedicated discussions about other forms of dance, or gymnastics, or tennis, or figure skating...you get the idea. Yes, this includes drill-team type dancing even if it is done on pointe.
(7) The moderator may take exception -- and start deleting -- if we get a large number of ballet students asking technical questions they really should be asking their instructors. Also, we will not recommend certain brands of pointe shoes, although the attributes of certain pointe shoes are certainly open for discussion.
So...what's okay to discuss here?
Ballet Dancers. Ballet Dancing. Ballet Performances. Ballet, Period.
You need not be sweet or wonderful if, say, you don't much care for Ballerina Xenia's dancing. But please don't be excessively mean, either. Try to maintain a sense of balance and a sense of proportion. Ballet is not a cure for cancer or the answer for world peace, after all. It is an art form. No one will be killed if Ballerina Xenia never makes it to 32 fouettes in Swan Lake.
Adult ballet students may discuss their studies (adult = ballet student over the age of 17). But as I said previously, there will be no discussions about anyone's child.
Internationally famous schools may be mentioned. Local schools...well, let's just say it's okay unless you say something negative and name names.
Please be cautious with links. Ballet-related YouTube links will be accepted. Links to your own ballet blog will be accepted as long as you aren't selling anything. Links to ballet-related articles will usually be okay. Un-ballet-related links will be DELETED.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Now for our regularly-scheduled discussions.
